Jesus died so we may be forgiven
Jesus rose from the dead to prove eternal life is real

Saved by Love

A young soldier in the American Civil War was sentenced to death because he fell asleep while on watch on the front line. An exhausted volunteer fighting for what he believed would be best for his family faced the military consequences of a firing squad for letting the team down. He was extra fatigued because the previous night he had supported a ‘good chum’ through his watchman duty. His little sister seeing the distress of her parents about their only son’s impending execution shared the unimaginable grief. She was just old enough to understand that Abraham Lincoln was a strong but fair leader despite supporting the rigorous military standards of his generals. She took herself to the president’s house where the sentry saw her sweetness and let her through to the secretary who interrupted the president and his generals. On hearing the little girl’s story of love for her brother and parents, orders were passed down the line to spare his life. The intercession of the girl is a great picture of the privilege we have to pray. Through the blood of Jesus real Christians have direct access to the throne of grace where we can plead the case of people facing either the consequences of their unwise choices or radically undeserved afflictions through no fault of their own.
Find this loving power at a church near you on Sunday. Please join us to practice this prayer.

JOY IN THE CHRISTMAS  STORY FOR A NEW YEAR

Christmas is about God becoming human so that humans could come to God.   The remarkable birth story of Christmas is so much part of our culture but how well do we really know it? We all know how the meaning of the festive season can be twisted and distorted to suit a man with a beard in red, or dress a retail giant’s profit margin. Any story can inspire at a variety of levels with a range of influences on our lives. Consider the latest movie releases like “Carnage” or “The Descendants” that may merely entertain at a shallow and enjoyable level.

However any story has the potential to inspire radical life changing action that results in healing of broken relationships and rejection of selfishness. The Jesus of  Bethlehem’s stable invites us to engage with his story for a radical life changing effect. This will see us embrace his way of life through this world and into the next. It is not a comfortable cosy story but one that confronts our way of life at every level. If we celebrate part of the story we may be like the person who received a valuable gift and never un-wrapped it to enjoy the present. We may also offend the loving giver.

Christmas and New Year blessings to you and yours.
Owen

Moguls
Sunday School with fun and games from 5th February

Children are precious and need to be nurtured as the grow to understand the moral and spiritual challenges  which life has in store for them.  Jesus said, “Let the Little Children come to me and do not hinder them for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”    Moguls at Snowy Mountains Church aims to allow our children to explore family values and wisdom for living  as they head into the bumps of life. This new Sunday school style of activity starts at Jindabyne Uniting Church this Sunday. The creative and interactive program for children 5 to 12 years old will operate during the time of the 9:30 AM church service in the Hall at 19 Gippsland Street. Parents and grandparents are welcome to enjoy a cuppa at the kitchen end of the hall while the children enjoy their fun and games, songs and activity at the other end of the hall. Long serving scripture teachers Bruce and Jill Hodges comment, "Children are searching and exploring for meaning in their world. From the Bible stories they enjoy at school, we find that they have many more questions than we have time to answer.”  As children face the joys and challenges of the future in a changing world here is a unique opportunity to give them the ability to decide for themselves about faith in a loving and caring God to share life's journey with them.

A Flood of God’s Love
Jindabyne Dam to Flood Snowy River
This week’s historic release of water into the Snowy River reminds us of the astronomical outpouring of water in the prophecy of Ezekiel.  In Chapter 47 the ancient spokesman for God describes a controlled flood of God’s love and power in a vision of a river flowing from the Temple in Jerusalem. The exponentially increasing flow is an image of God’s purpose to bring an overwhelming release of life and world changing blessing. In a dry and thirsty land the divine messenger declares, “Where the river flows everything will live.” There will be such abundance that fruit trees will bear fruit every month! The life giving and restoring water flow has miraculous power where “Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing,” promises Ezekiel. When we observe the skill of human engineering in the power of a controlled flood we have the opportunity to reflect on the life changing flood of God’s plan for our world in nourishing and healing. The Lord Jesus took up this image when he declared, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4).  A fresh flood of God’s love is available anytime we are willing to connect with Christ sincerely and deeply.

THANK YOU!
It was lovely to have you with us! Celebrate Remember Fight Back

The Snowy Relay for Life was an inspiring weekend facing the challenge of cancer with community solidarity. Congratulations to the committee for their huge effort in getting this event together. Whether doing laps of the oval, participating in ceremonies of just hanging at one of the exhibits we could all feel the synergy of love and determination to fight this disease. The church’s tent of reflection was enjoyed by visitors who grieved, asked God for healing or gave thanks for victory over cancer. Ambassador (photo above)  John Wallis’ opening talk brought tears to many eyes as he remembered fellow patients who passed away and then gave thanks to God for his healing.

Healing and thanksgiving prayer will continue this Sunday 8.00 am at Gegedzerick, 10.00 am at Jindabyne Uniting in Gippsland Street and 10.00 am at Boloco Church. Please join us as we continue to ask for and find God’s help in the face of any other illness and challenges of life. Come hear the stories from people who have found the love and energy to care while medical science does its best.

Dedication of Partnership and Induction

Picture

 12 December 2010

The dedication of the partnership between the Alpine Uniting Church with the Anglican Parish of Berridale and Snow Mountains occurred Saturday 11th of December 2010 in the ceremony held in Jindabyne's Memorial Hall.

Members of both parishes pledged their commitment to the partnership during the service which felt like a wedding. Presiding at the service was the Anglican Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn , the Right Reverend Stuart Robinson together with the Uniting Church Canberra and Region Presbytery Leader The Reverend  Harvey Smith. The historic event in the life of the churches of the Snowy - Monaro was attended by 140 people including the Anglican Bishop to the Australian Defence Force Len Eacott.

The ceremony featured members of the congregation bringing a white flower and placing it on a symbolic mountain landscape as an expression of unity. The partnership between the parishes is to be known as the Snowy Mountains Church.

Following the dedication the ceremony continued with the induction of the Rev Owen Davies as Pastor to the Snowy Mountains Church. Rev Davies comes to the Snowy Monaro having served as the Navy Chaplain at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra. He and his wife Hazel were also involved with the Holt Anglican Church. Defence force members and parishioners from Holt presented Rev Davies to the new church.
